Vacations are about seeing new places, enjoying new experiences and meeting new people. They’re also about shopping! Women’s clothing always makes for a great souvenir no matter where you go, particularly when overseas, where an article of clothing brings back the memories like nothing else can. Mexico? The French Riviera? Singapore? All of those places have distinct fashions ingrained into their cultures; the same can be said of domestic destinations such as the Florida Keys, San Diego or Branson, Missouri.
Toney resorts, which provide everything from room and board to meals (not to mention beaches and ocean sunsets), are just as likely to have clothing boutiques as they are to have a day spa on site. The lineups they offer are sure to be everything you’d ever want in vacation wardrobe, but keep in mind that there is a high price attached to such convenience – and you’re buying the same thing as everyone else.
Going to the local markets (flea markets, farmers markets, bazaars, whatever you want to call them) will give you a chance to sight-see on a non-regimented basis. The good and foods that you will find for sale will enhance the experience all the more, and if there are deals to be had on genuine local fashion, this is where they can be found. What’s more, you’ll be truly helping the local economy, as the vendors are sure to keep most of your cash within their communities.
In some unfortunate instances, one is forced to generate an entirely new wardrobe unexpectedly – as in when an airline misplaces your luggage, or when a suitcase comes off the luggage rack of the SUV, or when a kid leans his or her duffel bag against the Coleman lantern while camping, setting its contents on fire. In such unfortunate instances, if casual attire is needed, a trip to the local thrift store might be a smart economic move. If facing an occasion requiring formal wear, hit the sales and hope for the best.
